The role

What you'll do

  • Own the technical vision and execution strategy for integrated test capabilities supporting Archer's eVTOL certification program within lab Infrastructure.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the electrical engineering team, building a high-performing organization with clear growth paths and a strong technical culture.
  • Serve as the primary electrical engineering interface to cross-functional stakeholders; gather requirements (systems, SW, program) for new test assets, plan execution, and keep stakeholders informed throughout the process.
  • Establish and continuously improve electrical design standards, instrumentation frameworks, and lab safety protocols that scale across all current and future aircraft programs.
  • Own general electrical engineering lab architecture for critical electrical test capabilities, including capacity planning, long-term partnerships, and strategic make/buy decisions.
  • Partner closely with integrated test lab leadership to shape broader lab infrastructure strategy, proactively identifying gaps to improve throughput and quality via tooling, automation, and AI-assisted workflows.
  • What You Need
  • 6–12 years in aerospace electrical engineering, specifically within test infrastructure or Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Deep understanding of complex integrated subsystems architectures, high-voltage/high-power systems, or electric propulsion testing.
  • High proficiency in creating wiring diagrams and utilizing common schematic design tools (e.g., Siemens Capital) with a rigorous approach to documentation.
  • Experience with common serial communication bus protocols (CanBUS, ARINC, RS-232/485).
  • Exposure to agile/configuration management/test data traceability tools (JIRA, Polarion, or similar).
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating, or leading small technical teams of engineers and technicians.
  • Strong organizational skills and business acumen, with a proven ability to balance technical excellence, cost, schedule, supplier ecosystems, and team capacity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting project status and technical findings to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • A strong sense of personal ownership over your work and a process-improvement mindset—you don't just execute existing processes, you actively question them, improve them, and drive technical tasks to completion.
  • Bonus Qualifications

The bar

What you'll bring

  • Experience with FAA aircraft certification process or a commercial aviation airplane program.
  • Familiarity with integrated lab or hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test setups in an aviation or eVTOL context.
  • Direct experience with eVTOL or novel aircraft electrical certification.
  • Track record of technical innovations in electrical test methodology.
  • A strong desire to formally transition into people and project management responsibilities as a next career step.

Additional notes

Other

Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise.

Our sights are set high and our problems are hard, and we believe that diversity in the workplace is what makes us smarter, drives better insights, and will ultimately lift us all to success. We are dedicated to cultivating an equitable and inclusive environment that embraces our differences, and supports and celebrates all of our team members.

Archer is seeking a results driven and detail oriented individual for the position of Lead Electrical Engineer for our Integrated Labs Infrastructure organization. This is a role for someone who is exceptional at their day to day design and troubleshooting work, who thinks like a leader, and is eager to grow their area of responsibility. However, they must still want to stay hands on with real integrated subsystems through creating wiring diagrams and troubleshooting test rigs.

The ideal candidate must own the technical execution of multiple labs electrical design and infrastructure supporting integration and test activities, provide guidance to a small team of other engineers and technicians, and serve as the primary electrical engineering point of contact for cross functional stakeholders across multiple systems, software, and operations. You keep the big picture and the details sharp at the same time, and you never stop asking how we can do this better, faster, and smarter.
