Burlington silicon-germanium capacity expansion agreement
GlobalFoundries and Marvell announced an expanded multi-year agreement to increase silicon-germanium manufacturing capacity at GlobalFoundries' Burlington, Vermont, facility for next-generation optical connectivity.
The agreement adds capacity for high-performance silicon-germanium technology used in pluggable optical transceivers, near-packaged optics, and co-packaged optics serving AI and cloud data-center networks. GlobalFoundries said its current silicon-germanium technology supports 200-gigabit-per-second-per-lane optical connectivity, with a roadmap for higher-speed generations.
