HF-1 steel manufacturing assets commissioned in Canton
Metallus and the U.S. Army commissioned three production investments in Canton, Ohio, sized to supply HF-1 steel for more than 120,000 155mm metal parts per month at full capacity.
Metallus commissioned a bloom reheat furnace, a roller-hearth heat-treat furnace, and upgrades to its inline saw line at its Canton facilities. The Army backed the three investments through a $99 million Other Transaction Agreement. HF-1 steel is used in large-caliber artillery and mortar bodies, including the M795 and M1128 155mm projectiles; at full operational capacity, the expanded plant can supply enough steel for more than 120,000 155mm metal parts each month.
