The product
Aalo designs modular sodium-cooled nuclear systems for data centers. Its 10 MWe Aalo-1 is intended for five-reactor, 50 MWe Aalo Pod deployments. The company's Critical Test Reactor uses a full-scale core representing the nuclear components of the commercial design, while its planned Project Ascension system is intended to demonstrate commercial-scale power at the Aalo-X campus at Idaho National Laboratory.
The thesis
AI compute demand is outrunning the grid — and gigawatt-class reactors take a decade. Aalo argues factory-built microreactors are the only scalable path to clean baseload for hyperscalers, and that the same factory model works for industrial campuses and remote bases.
How it runs
Designs, manufactures, deploys, and plans to operate standardized modular nuclear plants, with roughly 90% of the plant made in-house and the remainder sourced from a U.S. supplier network. Its first commercial product is the factory-built 50 MWe Aalo Pod, installed alongside data centers in repeatable multi-unit deployments.
How it earns
Plans to contract with data-center operators through multi-deployment agreements for on-site power capacity, with initial deployments targeting delivered electricity around 15 cents per kWh and declining costs as factory volume scales. Commercial contract terms remain private.
Why it wins
Aalo combines vertical integration, assembly-line manufacturing, truck-transportable modules, and five-reactor fleet redundancy to target faster installation, predictable cost and schedule, small land and water requirements, and continuous power during phased maintenance.
