Atomic Semi has rebranded as Fab2. Fab2 builds all the hardware and software for small semiconductor fabs—including components, process tools, automation, complete fabs, and Studio, an in-browser collaborative EDA environment—and is constructing a factory whose product is mass-produced fabs.
The thesis
Modern leading-edge fabs cost $20B+ and are concentrated in TSMC, Samsung, and Intel. Atomic Semi is taking the opposite bet: that radically smaller, cheaper, faster-iterating fabs can serve the long tail of chip designs that today's foundries won't touch — a critical capability for US defense, hardware startups, and rapid-turn custom silicon. If it works, it reopens domestic fabrication for low- and mid-volume chips that have been offshored or simply don't get made.
How it runs
Now operating under the Fab2 brand, the company vertically designs and builds the components, semiconductor tools, automation, process technology, complete small fabs, and browser-based Studio EDA software needed to design and print chips. It is building a 'fab fab' in Lockhart, Texas to mass-produce repeatable small fabs alongside chip-fab operations in Austin and San Francisco.
