The product
Base designs and manufactures a 20 kW / 39.2 kWh residential battery system, installs and services it through an in-house deployment operation, and aggregates local fleets into dispatchable capacity for utilities and power markets. Its offering now varies by state between retail electricity plus backup and battery equipment and installation.
The thesis
Base is reframing residential energy: instead of selling a battery, they sell a 30-year electricity plan in which you happen to host their grid asset. ERCOT is the perfect proving ground — high outage exposure, deregulated retail, summer peak premiums. The $1B Series C (Oct 2025) at a $4B valuation funds expansion beyond Texas and a second US factory. This is the 'Tesla Energy if Tesla Energy was actually focused' bet.
How it runs
Base deploys purpose-built batteries behind or in front of the meter, retains a household backup reserve, and dispatches fleet capacity for utilities or markets. Utility deals can use pay-for-performance tolling of Base-owned batteries or a build-transfer structure that gives the utility ownership and dispatch rights.

Revenue can combine retail electricity plans, installation and membership charges, grid services, pay-for-performance utility capacity, and build-transfer sales of deployed battery fleets. The exact bundle and regulatory role vary by state and utility territory.
