The product
Forterra (formerly Robotic Research) develops the AutoDrive autonomy platform that drives third-party vehicles - from small UGVs to 80-ton industrial tractors - in GPS-denied, off-road environments. Primary focus is defense ground autonomy, with a growing commercial industrial line.
The thesis
The US ground autonomy capability for off-road/contested environments has historically been fragmented and DARPA-program driven. Forterra is consolidating it into a production-grade stack with real DoD primes contracts (ROGUE Fires, GEARS, breaching).
How it runs
Full-stack autonomy supplier and mission-system integrator: fits modular AutoDrive hardware/software to existing defense and industrial vehicles, working as a prime, a subsystem partner to vehicle OEMs, and a deployment partner for government programs.
How it earns
Production and integration contracts for autonomous mission systems and autonomy kits, supplemented by supplying AutoDrive systems and related tools through OEM production and sales channels.
Why it wins
An open, modular stack spans perception, redundant GPS-denied localization, behavior and command/control, has been integrated across more than 50 vehicle platforms, and is hardened through deployments from battlefields to ports and distribution centers.
