K2 Space

High-power, multi-orbit satellite platforms built for the heavy-lift era

AerospaceDefense
What they build

The product

K2 builds large satellite buses with high-power generation, electric propulsion, radiation-tolerant avionics, thermal control, communications, and payload capacity integrated in-house. Its current Mega platform supports up to 30 kW of peak payload power and 3,000 kg of payload mass; Giga is planned for super-heavy lift.

Why it matters

The thesis

K2 is treating large spacecraft as serially manufactured platforms instead of one-off prime-contractor programs. High power and payload capacity can support secure communications, sensing, hosted payloads, defense missions, and on-orbit computing with fewer satellites.

Operating model

How it runs

Vertically integrated production from a 180,000-square-foot Torrance factory designed for up to 100 high-power satellites per year, with in-house propulsion, solar arrays, avionics, power systems, reaction wheels, integration, and test.

Revenue model

How it earns

Contracted sales of satellite platforms and mission delivery to commercial operators and U.S. government customers. K2 reported more than $1 billion in signed contracts by July 2026; SES confirmed an initial 28 K2 platforms for meoSphere.

Strategic edge

Why it wins

A standardized high-power bus, multi-orbit propulsion, substantial payload and thermal capacity, and a vertically integrated supply chain designed for serial production.
