The product
Stone Power is designing and manufacturing large industrial power turbines in Hawthorne, California. Its first product is a 50 MW natural-gas combined-cycle unit designed around a battery-hybrid electrical architecture, 800 VDC output for AI data centers, optional 60 Hz AC, and a claimed 2.5 ppm dry-NOx target without selective catalytic reduction.
The thesis
Large turbine lead times have become a gating item for data centers, factories, and grid additions. Stone is attempting to restore a domestic turbine supplier base with a simpler, repeatable design and a 12-month deposit-to-turbine promise; if demonstrated, that could create a new source of firm power before legacy-OEM queues clear.
How it runs
Early-stage, vertically selective equipment manufacturer: Stone says it will own core turbine design and manufacturing, use an AI-assisted hardware-design platform to shorten redesign cycles, vertically integrate where it affects schedule or cost, and use a broader supplier network for the rest. The public roadmap starts with natural gas and carries the core manufacturing platform into nuclear steam and geothermal turbines.
