The product
Westmag, short for Western Magnetics Company, designs and manufactures electric motors for Group 1–3 unmanned aircraft and integrated actuators for humanoid and mobile robots. Its published range spans 20–100 mm stators, 5–50 inch propellers, 100–3,000 Kv motor ratings, and 1–150 Nm actuators operating at 24–48 V.
The thesis
Motors and actuators are high-volume, strategically important components in drones and robots, but U.S. OEMs have long depended on overseas suppliers. Westmag is building a domestic, NDAA-oriented source intended to support both defense demand and the broader robotics scale-up.
How it runs
Vertically integrated, high-mix component manufacturing at Factory 01 in South San Francisco. Westmag uses a shared motor-and-actuator architecture, flexible automated production modules, in-house winding, stator stamping, coating, assembly, and validation, plus U.S. and allied-country suppliers for upstream inputs.
How it earns
Business-to-business component sales under committed, high-volume OEM orders. Public materials say it is already shipping against orders for hundreds of thousands of units; customer names, unit pricing, margins, contract duration, and recognized revenue are undisclosed.
Why it wins
A common electromechanical architecture across drone motors and robot actuators, vertically integrated U.S. production, NDAA-compliant-by-default sourcing, and a replicable factory model intended to combine domestic control with the cost curve of very high unit volumes.
