About
Casey Handmer founded Terraform Industries in 2021 to mass-produce synthetic natural gas from sunlight, atmospheric CO2, and water, on the bet that cheap solar electricity makes hydrocarbons a manufactured product rather than an extracted one. He earned a PhD in gravitational wave simulation from Caltech in 2015, then designed maglev systems at Hyperloop One and built GPS science instruments and mapping tools at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Terraform's containerized 'Terraformer' integrates direct air capture, electrolysis, and Sabatier methane synthesis into a single modular plant, and the company has produced what it claims are the world's cheapest DAC CO2, green hydrogen, and pipeline-grade synthetic methane. It has signed deals with SoCalGas and PG&E to inject synthetic gas into California's distribution system.
