Dennis Whyte is a co-founder of Commonwealth Fusion Systems and the former director of MIT's Plasma Science and Fusion Center, where the company was incubated. He is the Hitachi America Professor of Engineering at MIT and an architect of the high-field, high-temperature-superconductor approach to compact tokamaks that underpins the SPARC design. He helped catalyze CFS's 2018 spin-out alongside Bob Mumgaard, Brandon Sorbom, Zach Hartwig, and Dan Brunner.
