JoeBen Bevirt is founder and CEO of Joby Aviation, the Santa Cruz-based eVTOL company he started in 2009 as one of several projects incubated on his ranch in the Santa Cruz Mountains. He is a serial entrepreneur and prolific inventor with more than 160 U.S. patents in aerodynamics, aircraft design, and electric and hydrogen propulsion. Joby has spent more than a decade developing an all-electric, piloted, four-passenger air taxi and is one of a small handful of companies pursuing FAA type certification for commercial passenger eVTOL operations. The company began trading on the NYSE in August 2021 and was selected for five FAA eIPP pilot projects in 2026.
