About
Trevor McCourt co-founded Extropic in 2022 with Guillaume Verdon and serves as CTO, leading the chip architecture and hardware engineering behind the company's Thermodynamic Sampling Units. He was previously a quantum computing researcher at Alphabet, where he worked alongside Verdon before they spun out to commercialize a non-quantum but physics-native approach to AI compute. McCourt's focus at Extropic is turning exotic statistical-physics ideas into manufacturable CMOS-compatible silicon, with the X0 chip serving as the company's first public proof point. The technology represents probability with p-bits whose state fluctuates by design, making sampling, the bottleneck of generative AI, essentially free.
